About the Author
There should be a law against authors writing these author biography sections in the third person. Since few people read this section before at least thumbing through the book, you know by now that I have far too much respect for your intelligence to try to fool you that way. You know very well that some all-knowing other person did not write glowing prose about me in this hallowed place. It's me, Dave, your colleague.
What you need to know about me is that I have been involved in electronic warfare (EW) and EW simulation for a long, long time. After leaving the army, I spent the next 24 years designing receiving systems for EW and reconnaissance applications from submarines to space, at frequencies from just above dc to just above light, and managing the efforts of others (most smarter than I) who were doing the same. During this time, I ran the systems engineering group at Antekna, one of the earliest companies in the EW simulation business, for a couple of years. Over the years, I have also participated in simulation programs and testing programs using simulations in several companies in a variety of locations and have been the principal investigator on a wide range of EW and reconnaissance modeling projects.
I hold a BSEE from Arizona State University and an MSEE from the University of Santa Clara, both with majors in communications theory, and I have published about 100 articles on communications, EW, and EW-simulation-related topics in a variety of technical magazines and journals. I have also written extensive tutorial sections in various handbooks. I have never published an integral sign (except once, in a cartoon)—all of these articles and tutorial sections have explained communications, EW, and simulation phenomena using a practical application-oriented approach like that used in this book.
I now make my living as the owner of a small company that performs studies for the government and for prime defense contractors. I also teach short courses all over the world on communication theory, EW, and simulation-related subjects.
